Practicing meditation comes with a myriad of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits. This week, we continue with my top 10 list of the most powerful benefits of meditation. For benefits 10-6, head over to last week's post.

5 - Explore the Power of Time Travel in Your Mind with Meditation

Your body is restricted to the present moment—it cannot physically walk into your memories, nor can it enter your imagination. No, your body is limited to life in the here and now. However, when you meditate, you transcend the body and exist as consciousness. As consciousness, or the Higher Self, you can access the past and future realms of awareness. You can move into your memories to recall and relive past experiences, and you can even reimagine the future! The world within is much more expansive than your outer world, and you can learn more about this in Lesson 3, Organize Your Mind. It's also important to note that your body cannot enter enlightenment either—only you as consciousness can. If you're lucky!

4 - Increase Compassion and Empathy Through Meditation

One of the more noble and notable benefits of regular meditation practice is the development of compassion and empathy. As you begin your journey, you'll soon realize that to meditate effectively, you need to observe your own experiences without judgment or emotional attachment in order to heal and move forward. As you become comfortable putting yourself under a microscope, you start to understand how you came to be, offering yourself forgiveness and acceptance. As with all things in meditation, what happens on the inside is reflected on the outside. Soon enough, you'll start to develop empathy for others, along with a connection and appreciation for nature.

3 - Access Higher Consciousness Through Meditation

Your evolutionary journey didn't begin the moment you were born. Consider how much data exists in your pinky finger alone for it to exist and function—then you can appreciate the biological journey your cells have been on to form you. In meditation, you can travel so far back into your past that you can recall your birth and even cross over into the death of a previous lifetime. You can meditate so far into the future, imagining your death in this lifetime, and cross over to glimpse your birth in the next. Accessing higher and alternate realms of awareness, timelines, realities, lifetimes, and life cycles are just some of the many benefits of deeper, advanced meditation practice.

2 - Enhance Your Spiritual Development with Meditation

Meditation is an ancient practice that dates back thousands of years—it predates all major religions and even language. Spiritual development is gained through deep introspection and self-study, helping you realize the value or reason for self. Though there are many interpretations, the spirituality derived from meditation is always personal. Any expression of universal truth will always remain an interpretation until science can explain it. Even then, it is prophesied that when science finally catches up, it will mark the end of our world as we know it, for we will have found our way back to the source from which all creation began.

1 - Peace

Ultimately, achieving inner and outer peace is my number one reason to meditate. Meditation teaches me to accept all that I cannot change and to appreciate life in the moment as a sacred experience. Regardless of belief, life is here and now—it is creation at play. What is life if we're focused only on what will come of it or what came before it? Change what you need to preserve your experience, and let go of what you cannot control.

There you have it, my ten powerful benefits of meditation and why you should start your meditation journey today! If you're new to Meditation by Talwinder, start your journey at the beginning. For those who have been with me from the start, next week we will continue with Lesson 6: Creating a Safe Space Within Your Mind.
