7. Find Yourself and Your Purpose Through Meditation

Last week, you learned how to create an inner sanctuary within your mind, known as your "safe space." This week, you'll explore why creating a mental safe space is a powerful tool for self-discovery, uncovering your purpose, and cultivating a deeper sense of truth.

Discovering Who You Are

One of the most transformative aspects of meditation is its ability to help you think freely and feel deeply. What many don’t realize is that between mindfulness and true stillness of the mind lies an entire process of reclaiming authority over your inner world. Everything you've practiced so far has been to help you take your rightful place within, so you can effortlessly detach from experiences that do not serve or enlighten you. Nothing embodies the phrase "I am in charge here" more than consciously creating your life experience, starting with building a safe space within.

Your safe space is a place where you are completely free to be yourself, without compromise. Imagine yourself as the creator of your own world: What would that world look like? What would you experience in a place where you feel safe and secure enough to be your truest self? This mental safe space allows you to discover who you are organically, free from the pressures and influences of the material world.

As you create and explore your safe space in meditation, you gain a sense of who you are in a space free from judgment or harm. Remember, no one can see or hear you there; you are the sole creator and master of this inner landscape. At first, it might take some getting used to, but this is your first step toward liberating yourself from the restrictions that limit your potential.

Realizing Your Purpose

Once your safe space is established and you feel comfortable expressing yourself freely within it, you can begin using this creation as a measure against all your life experiences. Your safe space acts as a kind of control center, helping you discern which experiences truly resonate with you and which do not.

From advertising to external pressures, you're often told what to think and feel, making self-discovery and purpose-finding challenging. However, as you liberate yourself within, you gain confidence in your life choices. For example, if you meet someone who makes you feel safe enough to be your full, authentic self—as you do within your safe space—this person likely resonates with your inner truth. The same applies to music that inspires you, movies that uplift you, and hobbies that engage you. With this inner foundation, you can confidently lean into people and activities that reflect your true self.

This is how your purpose begins to reveal itself. As you consciously shape your outer world to reflect the truth within, you notice your role in creating a safer, more genuine world for all. As I often say, if universal truth were a jigsaw puzzle, you represent a unique piece of it. Discovering your safe space is how you recognize that piece, and shaping your outer world accordingly is how you bring it to life!

Developing a Sense of Truth

Lastly—and this is a practice for deeper meditation—creating a safe space within your mind strengthens your sense of truth. On your journey toward enlightenment, you'll need to discern when your mind, or even forces beyond it, attempt to deceive you into accepting illusions as reality.

The transcendental journey can sometimes lead into enchanting dreamscapes or, in more challenging cases, darker realms of consciousness that distract from enlightenment. However, by creating and anchoring in the truth of self—your safe space—you cultivate the clarity to navigate these illusions with ease. As we delve into deeper meditation practices in upcoming lessons, remember this: whenever you feel uncertain, just breathe (step one), and start again.
