11. The Transformative Power of Truth-Seeking Meditation
"Life is yours to create of your own free will. However, only by embracing your own inner truth will you begin to recognize and decipher the nature of Truth itself. I developed an approach to meditation that grants you the freedom to think and feel while empowering you to detach and silence the mind from anything that does not serve or enlighten you. I call this practice Truth-Seeking meditation." - About
My Journey into Meditation
I started meditating when I was nine years old, but not for the reasons you might expect. I wasn’t spiritually aware, nor was I raised in a monastery or mentored in meditation. My only exposure to it came from the artwork at the local gurdwara (Sikh temple), where ancestral Gurus (spiritual teachers) were depicted sitting blissfully cross-legged, seemingly without a care in the world.
Like many awkward nine-year-olds with a quirky streak, I was bullied a lot. The world felt like a place where I simply didn’t belong. There was no narrative I could latch onto or identify with. As my sense of belonging diminished, I became increasingly withdrawn, dissociated from the experience of life itself.
Watching me struggle to navigate the complexities of conformity, my mum introduced me to yoga and encouraged me to try meditation for my mental health.
Her instructions were simple:
"If you don’t like what you think or feel, take a big breath. Keep trying until you feel better."
So, I practiced every day. Whenever I felt bad about myself or upset from being excluded, I would take a deep breath until the feelings went away.
These were the foundations of my meditation practice—and they might sound familiar because it’s what most people learn when they start.
Moving Beyond the Basics
Just remember this: if it doesn’t serve or enlighten you, simply return to your breath and detach.
This is the underlying formula for all meditation practices. However, moving from basic meditation to Truth-Seeking Meditation happens when you’ve conditioned your mind to naturally let go of anything that bothers you. By doing so, you create space for new, enlightening experiences to emerge.
Truth-Seeking Meditation
If you’ve been following my lessons, you’ve already begun your truth-seeking journey by creating a safe space within your mind—an inner sanctuary where you can study and create your own truths. It’s a world of your own making where you can roam freely as yourself, with self-compassion.
The more time you spend meditating on your truth, the more its frequency seeps into your everyday life. It connects you to experiences that resonate—whether that’s meeting like-minded people or discovering passions you never knew existed.
This initial truth-seeking technique can lead you to a more enriched and fulfilling life. The effort lies in consciously aligning and harmonizing with your inner truth. In meditation, if it doesn’t serve or enlighten you, you breathe. In life, you move on. When the mind and body are in harmony, life naturally becomes easier.
Taking the Next Step
However, your truth-seeking journey doesn’t end here. While this technique will resolve many mental health issues, it also sets the stage for a deeper, more spiritual truth-seeking path.
In later lessons, I’ll teach you how to transcend material dimensions of awareness and reach higher, more enlightening states of knowing. For now, it’s important to condition your mind and prepare for the journey ahead. So, get used to playing in the realm of truth, and ready yourself for enlightenment.
